Field Modulations

Field Modulations, Oxford,  2018

Fabric, transducers, electronics, iron ore, copper wire, tin box, magnets, field recordings

The exhibition is starting point of Signe Lidén´s residency at St John’s College, University of Oxford

An acoustic canvas spans the gallery space. A piece of iron ore, turned into a speaker coil, is sounding from beneath. Resonances from the stone echo in the fabric. Both fabric and stone release a composition based on field recordings from two mountains that straddle the Arctic mine area of the Norwegian-Russian border.

A special thank you to Jason Stanyek and to St John’s College for providing funding for this residency.  Many thanks to David Line and St John’s College Works Department for their help with installing the Field Modulation exhibition.
